The Western Australian Country Football League (WACFL) is a stand out partnership. The Regional Men’s Health Initiative(RMHI) has used money from sponsorships and donations to sponsor grass roots county footy and promote men’s health and wellbeing messages. Starting in 2014, the WACFL will promote a Regional Men’s Health: Talk to a Mate®!! Men’s Wellbeing Round, contributing their outstanding access to print, radio and television media to publicise the event.
WACFL believes the health of their participants is extremely important and they continue to look for ways to promote positive messages to those involved with the Leagues and Clubs.
Unfortunately, in regional Western Australia, men’s health is often ignored. Through education we believe we can help blokes grow their knowledge base of signs to look for and steps to take to ensure they are taking care of their own health and wellbeing first as well as looking out for their mates.
WACFL’s Talk to a Mate®!! Men’s Wellbeing Round usually falls around the second weekend in June each year.
Over this weekend RMHI educational messages of “Talk to a Mate®” feature in the leagues footy budgets. Fridge magnets are distributed to clubs that promote the message …before it all gets too much… Talk to a Mate®!! or Talk it Over. This magnet also directs players to Mensline Australia a 24/7 support and advice line for blokes. Each year the WACFL arranges for every one of the 150 football clubs to receive an RMHI education info pack with magnets, brochures and DVD’s. Clubs are encouraged to invite RHMI to present education sessions to their players, which supports our “grass roots / bottoms up” educational model of empowering men and communities to take responsibility for their wellbeing and health.
Since 2015 every senior league fixture across the State will play with a Regional Men’s Health Initiative branded football. Also, in addition to fridge magnets, each team across the state have been provided with an A4 size clip frame with our “Talk to a Mate®” message to become a perminent fixture in club rooms.
